November 2007 Producer Profile: Patricia Loew
Patty Loew wants to change the role of Native Americans in the media.

Loew, a professor at the University of Wisconsin, spent 12 years as a co-anchor for ABC in Madison, Wis.  She feels that it is important for Natives to be involved in both local and mainstream media.

"Radio and television are really culturally compatible with who we are as Native people," said Loew.  Read the full story


October 2008 Producer Profile: Jim Sprecher
Growing up in a small town in South Dakota, executive producer Jim Sprecher  didn't know much about the state's Native population. It wasn't until college that Sprecher learned about the state's Native history.

Now after 36 years with South Dakota Public Broadcasting, Sprecher has been aiding in the preservation of the state's rich heritage through video. And his latest production, Oceti Sakowin: People of the Seven Council Fires, has been nominated with a regional Emmy.  Read the full story


November 2009 Producer Profile: Arigon Starr and Dirk Maggs
She’s a little bit country. He’s a little bit rock.

She is Arigon Starr, the energetic performer of a radio production called “The Red Road.” Her one-woman radio play was recorded at  NET in Lincoln, Neb. where - complete with an array of props, accents and her signature guitar – the enrolled member of the Kickapoo Tribe of Oklahoma tackled the task of dispelling stereotypes of Native American people through the variety of colorful and comical characters that she portrays. March 2011 Producer Profile: Jonathon Stanton
As a filmmaker out of Vancouver, Canada, Stanton infuses his passion for athleticism and the outdoors into his productions. His new documentary, Games of the North: Playing for Survival, is no exception. Games of the North showcases traditional Indigenous sports of the Arctic from the perspective of the athletes themselves. The sports incorporate survival skills necessary to inhabit the extreme Arctic environment.  Read the full story
